Being a Linux User
I was using another type of operating system before I started using Linux. I have to say I was very skeptical about using Linux since most of my friends were on Windows or Mac and I did not want to be the only one trying out something new. I did not know much about Linux and this is probably why I could not start for a long time. I decided to do some research on the software and learn more about it before I moved to Linux.
From the moment I started my research, I have to say I was blown away from what I found out. The operating system was free and way cheaper than other operating systems and the best thing about it was the fact that it was created based on user opinions and preferences. When my research was done, I was sure I had to try Linux. I have no regrets whatsoever about making the bold move to move to Linux. Linux is not only cheaper but has way better security compared to other operating systems.
Linux is more than just an operating system. It is an interface the hardware and programs that run on a server. Referring to Linux as simply an operating system means that it can be used in place of other operating systems such as Windows and Mac. This is however not the case since Linux unlike other operating systems is not a program or a set of programs. While at the University of Helsinki the creator of Linux, Linus Torvalds used an operating system known as Minix.
For a long time, Linus and other users made requests to the creator of Minix on possible modifications and improvements on the OS. The creator however did not think the OS needed any changes. This is when Linus Torvalds decided to create Linux incorporating all user requests and comments. This is what makes Linux so user friendly. It incorporates what the users want and therefore stands alone and cannot be compared to other operating systems.
Linux basically does two things. First and foremost, Linux is responsible for managing the software and hardware of your computer. The software and hardware means things like; disk space, memory, monitor, keypad, battery and processor. These are the most important things in a computer and the operating system makes them run as they should to enable you to do whatever you want on the computer.
The other thing that Linux does is providing a stable way for all your applications to cope with the hardware on the computer without necessarily having to understand everything about the hardware. This is important because it enables you to install and make use of all sorts of applications on your computer without having any problems. Like other operating systems, Linux has its pros and cons.
The first advantage of this operating system is the fact that it is very easy to use. This means you can use Linux in a business setting or for school purposes without facing any difficulties. The fact that Linux is very adaptable is another advantage. It is adaptable to very many software and does not have complications. I also liked the fact that Linux works on very old systems.
This is not the case with other operating systems. Most operating systems only operate on new versions of computers. I also noticed that Linux is very stable, I have never had to reboot it numerous times to get it to work and that is something I love. This software is also very fast and secure. Last but not east, there is no registration needed for this operating system.
One of the greatest downside to this operating system is the fact that there is no support. If you happen to face any problems, you are bound to struggle since there’s no one to help. The only option is to send the company an email. The other disadvantage is the fact that this software does not support very advanced programs. This might be a problem for people looking to use such programs. Last but not least, you cannot run certain MS applications on Linux.
In general, I found Linux very good and I like it very much. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast, free and easy manageable operating system.
